Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival – Addis Ababa – Arba Minch

Meet on arrival in Addis early in the morning and drive south to Arba Minch, visiting the Dorze people en route, known for weaving skills, elephant-shaped houses, and enset (false banana) as a staple food. Overnight in Arba Minch.

Day 2

Arba Minch – Konso – Jinka

Morning boat trip on Lake Chamo to spot Nile crocodiles, hippos, and birdlife. Continue south visiting Banna and Ari tribes with unique pottery, hairstyles, and culture. Overnight in Jinka.

Day 3

Excursion to Mago National Park

Drive into Mago National Park to meet the Mursi people, famous for lip plates and body decorations. Return to Jinka for lunch and relaxation. Overnight in Jinka.

Day 4

Jinka – Market Visit – Turmi

Attend Key Afer Market (Thursday) or Alduba Market (Tuesday), vibrant tribal gatherings. Continue to Turmi, home of the Hamer people with distinctive hairstyles, body art, and rituals. Overnight in Turmi.

Day 5

Excursion to Murulle & Nyangatom

Visit Karo people at Murulle, known for striking white chalk body paintings and scarification. Continue to Nyangatom people with elaborate bead necklaces and decorated goatskin skirts. Return to Turmi overnight.

Day 6

Excursion to Omorate (Dassanech Tribe)

Morning drive to Omorate near Lake Turkana to meet the Dassanech (Delta people). Return to Turmi in the afternoon. Overnight in Turmi.

Day 7

Turmi – Konso

Drive to Konso, UNESCO World Heritage site, known for stone terraces and traditional clan system. Overnight in Konso.

Day 8

Konso – Arba Minch – Addis Ababa

Return to Arba Minch and take a domestic flight back to Addis Ababa. Free time to relax at the hotel. Overnight in Addis Ababa.

Day 9

Addis Ababa – Awash National Park

Drive east to Awash National Park. Enjoy game drives to spot oryx, baboons, kudus, warthogs, gazelles, monkeys, and possibly lions or leopards. Explore volcanic landscapes, Awash Gorge, and waterfalls. Overnight at Awash Lodge or camping.

Day 10

Awash – Dire Dawa – Harar

Drive to Dire Dawa and continue to Harar, a UNESCO World Heritage walled city. Explore its maze-like streets, markets, Harari houses, and Rimbaud House. Evening experience: Hyena Man show. Overnight in Harar.

Day 11

Harar – Babile Market & Valley of Marvels

Excursion to Babile for Ethiopia’s largest camel market (Mondays & Thursdays). Continue to the Valley of Marvels to see unusual rock formations shaped by wind and erosion. Return to Harar for further sightseeing. Overnight in Harar.

Day 12

Harar – Dire Dawa – Fly Addis – Departure

Drive to Dire Dawa, stopping at Aweday’s chat market. Fly to Addis Ababa. Enjoy a farewell folkloric dinner with traditional music, dances, and coffee ceremony. Transfer to the airport for departure.
